Our homeschool Curriculum

One of the exciting aspects of homeschooling with Taylion is the wide range of curricula available to suit your child’s individual needs. 

Our Educational Specialists collaborate with top-quality curriculum providers to ensure we cater to your child’s unique learning style.
Our list of providers is continually evolving, so check with your Educational Specialist for the most current options to personalize your child’s education.
High school families will work with their Educational Specialists and our School Counselor to develop a customized Four-Year Plan of classes and curriculum tailored to each student’s needs and interests so they can maximize their true potential. 

Testing and Assessment at Taylion Homeschool

Taylion Homeschool is a TK-12th grade public charter school; therefore, our students participate in the following state standardized tests:

  1. The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress/Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (CAASPP/SBAC) is given to students in grades 3-8th and 11th.
  2. The California Standards Test for Science (CAST) is administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and one time in high school (grades 10-12).
  3. The Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is for students in grades 5th, 7th, and 9th.
  4. The English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC) test is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English.
  5. The California Alternative Assessment (CAA) will be administered by the Special Education team for those students with severe learning disabilities.
  6. The iReady diagnostic assessments are given in reading and math two times per school year (once during the fall semester and once during the spring semester) as a diagnostic, formative, and summative tool for our families and teachers. This shows true academic growth of the student throughout the school year. 

Roles and Responsibilities

The Educational Specialist is the primary contact for parents or legal guardians regarding the student’s educational needs. As such, our promise to you is the Educational Specialist will:

  • Collaborate with parents to create a personalized learning plan and oversee progress toward that plan.
  • Offer guidance on curricular and vendor choices and suggest resources to meet the student’s needs.
  • Document student learning and assess progress in each academic period across the five academic areas.
  • Communicate regularly with the parent or legal guardian and the student to ensure academic success and provide weekly tutoring.
  • Hold care team meetings with the parent or legal guardian and the student to verify attendance, collect portfolio samples, and ensure progress.
Support at the parent and guardian level is crucial for student development and success. As the primary instructor at Taylion Homeschool, a parent and guardian’s responsibilities include:

  • Planning and implementing daily lessons with the support and guidance of a Taylion Educator.
  • Providing daily academic instruction in two or more subjects.
  • Ensuring students attend and complete all required school assessments.
Responsibilities of a Taylion Homeschool Student include: 

  • Engage in 4-6 hours of educational activities daily, following their personalized learning plan. 
  • Be proactive and respectful with parents, staff, and students during instructional time.
  • Synergize with others about work completed
  • Be inquisitive and cultivate a passion for learning.

Is this program free?

Yes, we are a TK-12th grade, public charter school approved by Adelanto Elementary School District. We are publicly funded like traditional schools and do not charge tuition for attendance and participation in our homeschool model.

Is Taylion Homeschool accredited?

Yes, Taylion is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)

What is the Personalized Learning Program?

The TK-8 Personalized Learning Program (PLP) provides a tailored educational experience for students in grades TK-8. Operating under our homeschool independent study model, students enjoy the flexibility of learning from home at their own pace. They also have the opportunity to engage in virtual classes through Taylion Homeschool or participate in classes offered by community providers, either virtually or in-person. Our dedicated Educational Specialists collaborate closely with parents and students to craft personalized learning plans that align with each student’s unique strengths, skills, needs, and interests. We offer accelerated support for students performing above grade level, as well as research-based programs for those needing additional assistance.

Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles, Inyo, Kern, Kern, San Bernardino. If you live in these counties, we serve you. 

What does a Care team meeting look like?

A Care Team meeting is just as it sounds. A meeting with the student, Educational Specialist, and the Parent/Guardian. At this meeting, the Educational Specialist evaluates the student’s work to track progress towards their personalized learning goals. Engaging the student in enjoyable educational activities allows for informal assessment of their comprehension, with support offered to address any areas needing improvement. The Educational Specialist works closely with the student and parent to strategize for the upcoming learning period, assigning lessons and activities aimed at fostering ongoing development and achievement. Ultimately, the Care Team meeting fosters collaboration and support, dedicated to advancing the student’s academic journey and ensuring their success.

Do Taylion Educators gather work samples?

Yes, Educational Specialists collect samples of student work to create a thorough assessment of their progress and accomplishments. These samples serve as proof of learning and are essential for customizing instruction to fit each student’s specific needs. Moreover, they aid in monitoring student growth and development across time.

Can I choose my own curriculum?

Of course! You have the freedom to select your curriculum in partnership with your assigned Educational Specialist. We offer a range of resources to assist you in researching and choosing the curriculum that best fits your requirements and preferences. These resources empower you to make educated decisions about your curriculum selections, ensuring they align with your learning objectives and preferences.

What opportunities will my student(s) have for in-person engagement?

Students can engage in face-to-face interactions through virtual or in-person classes offered by community providers in our local areas that we currently serve. Additionally, students may choose to take part in local events, field trips, and other extracurricular activities organized by Taylion Educators and our community partners.

Do you support students that have a 504 plan or IEP?

Of course! At Taylion Homeschool we provide wrap-around services for students with 504 plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). 

Does Taylion offer dual enrollment with our local community colleges?

Yes, Taylion Homeschool provides dual enrollment opportunities with nearby community colleges. This enables high school students to earn college credits alongside their high school coursework. Dual enrollment offers students an early introduction to college and can be a cost-effective way to accelerate their academic path. Our Educational Specialists are available to offer assistance and advice in choosing dual enrollment pathways that match students’ academic and career aspirations.

Is Taylion Homeschool in compliance with the National College Athletic Association?

Yes, Taylion Homeschool adheres to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations for student-athletes. We offer support and guidance to students interested in collegiate sports, including help with meeting NCAA eligibility criteria, collaborating with coaches and recruiters, and navigating the college recruitment journey.

Will my student be able to participate in any clubs, prom, or school meetups?

Of course! We provide a range of activities and social opportunities for high school students, such as Prom, High School Meetups, college tours, career-focused field trips, volunteer opportunities, beach bonfires, etc. These activities allow students to foster community connections, create lasting memories, and participate in social and extracurricular experiences beyond the classroom.

Will there be any help in filling out college applications?

Yes, we offer guidance and support to students throughout the college application process. Our Educational Specialists and Counselors assist with selecting colleges, preparing application materials, writing essays, requesting letters of recommendation, and navigating financial aid options (FAFSA). We are dedicated to helping students reach their post-secondary goals and transition smoothly to college or other educational pathways.
